Geography Lesson Needed.

Letter to the Webmaster:
I am wondering if there are any good places to snowboard near your college. Your college has everything i would like. The classes, the sports, but the snowboarding is important for me too. If you will please let me know i would very much appreciate it.
Sincerly,
D. Coats

What I did not reply:

Dear D.Coats:
I assume this is some sort of joke. The University you are thinking of applying to gets no snowfall most years. It is located on the Gulf Coast. Please give some serious consideration to what you write prior to hitting the send button. Sincerely has another "e" in it and "I" is always capitalized when referring to oneself. Good luck on the SAT.

A rant from a fellow alumn

I have been a supporter of XXX for a long time. The indoctrintion that Mr. Shaefer gave about the global warming is really not what is deamed in a college. Telling the students that blood will be on their heads if they do not do something is really wrong. Too much politicts in school where is the education. You need to teach what is in the books not the liberal teachers opionions. I am really embarrassed to say I went to school there. What has happened to our country? This man should be fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But we know that nobody is accountable anymore. The school unions have corrupted the educational system and you need to do something about it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Webmaster Woes

I have a question to whom this may concern,

I don't start college this year but i wanted to know what would the fees be for entering this college if i wanted to go for a buisness degree?
In the buisness department do you do neonatology (premature baby care)?

What?!

Tales from the Webmaster continues after a long hiatus. Nothing interesting has been sent to the address for some time... until now. This is just a random bit of wisdom to be shared.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Dr. ====== at St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma taught me that we teach non-accounting students accounting and accounting students to be an accountant. I have taught Accounting part-time for many years. My teaching was partially nullified by this simple statement.

In the current world it is important for a manager to know accounting. It is not important that the student be an accountant. But, we teach the non-accounting majors to be accountants and make it mandatory in the Business School. We need to have two classes teaching accounting and separate the different types of students.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely Yours,
Stephen Covert, CPA

Thoughts from a Vacuum

University administrative systems, like the legacy ones we have here, are complex, highly integrated programs with layers of back-end processes. Registration must tie into several databases - it must tie into who is eligible for a certain class, the number of seats available - and it must work simultaneously so that two people don't book the same last seat in a given classroom. Every couple of years some genius decides that a new enterprise program can just be done by students as part of a class project. They are clueless. Completely clueless.... and I guess it is my fault. I really ought to do a better job of educating the public (our users) about what goes into an enterprise system. There are no easy fixes. A specific program does not exist by itself. It has to be able to seamlessly integrate into the vast labyrinth of existing enterprise systems. Getting code to talk to code is not a project for students. Too much is at stake.
